FACT: Hundreds of supporters gathered outside Tihar jail after Hazare and his associates were taken inside the prison. Shortly after Hazare’s arrest, his campaigner Prashant Bhushan announced a series of agitational programmes. He also called upon government employees to go on mass leave from Wednesday to show solidarity with Hazare. Parliament was disrupted by opposition parties which attacked government saying Hazare’s arrest amounted to “murder of democracy”. Chidambaram said no one can dictate that either “my bill or no bill”.  MP Sushma Swaraj said in parliament “This government allows separatists to come and air their views in the capital but whenever a saffron clad saint or a Gandhi-cap activist holds an agitation they don’t allow it.” “….This government is nervous. It is not being run by the Prime Minister or the Home Minister. Police are running this government,” She said. The CPI (M) also gave a call to the people to protest against the undemocratic arrest of Anna Hazare.
OWL WATCH: Anna is in fast and Congress is biting the dust. Team Anna is planning some dramatic agitational ideas against the ruling party. On 15th August they gave a call to keep all lights off for one hour in the evening which was a super flop show. Dramatization of the whole issue is on progress. Though candle light protest is not a drama. Now they gave a call to the government employees to go on mass leave (strike) from tomorrow. Mass leave for indefinite period may jeopardize the system which may not be acceptable by most of the countrymen just to adopt Janlokpal bill in the parliament. Team Anna failed the urgency of Janlokpal bill to be felt by majority of people. One day strike/ mass leave may be granted by the employees to protest the undemocratic attitude of this government. There is no short-cut way of revolution. The Congress is facing a “nervousness” of unarmed “coup” because majority of the political parties are raising their voices against the undemocratic attitude of the Congress against Anna Hazare. Many organisations will also protest against the dictatorial stance of the government. Many more ideas of protests may come from think tanks of the team. Anna is sticking to his demand of “my bill” and the Congress is defending “no bill”.  Let us hope for a better bill which is neither “my bill” nor “no bill” which will be “our bill” – people’s Lokpal bill.
